The villages of Far and Near Sawrey lie west of Lake Windermere, the houses strung along the lane, just above the head of Esthwaite Water. Near Sawrey is perhaps best known as home to Beatrix Potter, where her house, Hill Top, is just opposite Meadowcroft. Many of the village buildings illustrate her stories, including the Tower Bank Arms, which is as popular for its literary connections as its cellar and pub grub and, best of all, is only a stones throw away. A little lane by the house leads up to Dubbs Tarn, perfect for a picnic and you can carry on up onto Claife Heights for woodland walks and views of Windermere. Meadowcroft is a fine semi detached house at the heart of the village. From a patio garden you enter into the pine fitted kitchen, well equipped to cater for your stay. From here a small hall leads off to a sunny breakfast room. Off this is a utility room with a downstairs WC, basin and shower, also the laundry facilities. The sitting room is large, with two deep bays allowing light to flood in. To one end sofas and armchair sit around the open fire, to the other is a large table for dining. Stairs lead up to the first floor where you will find three bedrooms and a bathroom with deep bath, separate shower cubicle, hand basin and WC. A further flight of stairs take you up to an attic bathroom with hand held shower, basin and WC. The bedrooms are all comfortably furnished, one a king size, one a double and finally a twin. All in all perfect to relax - perfect as a base to explore.
