Cartmel is one of Cumbrias finest villages. Where else will you find a towering Norman Priory and a national hunt racecourse; more shops selling books and antiques than souvenirs. A village store with shelves that groan with goodies and is home to the famous sticky toffee pudding. A maze of streets lined by lime-washed architecture, a village square entered by a bridge on one side and under a monastic arch on the other; two grocers, four pubs and the Michelin awarded Enclume, one of Cumbria’s finest restaurants.

For me, Cartmel is the perfect village. Set on the Cartmel Peninsular, surrounded by rolling hills that tumble down to the coast, it is picture perfect.

With ancient buildings, an impressive medieval priory, a towering arch and a sweet, clear river, the village centres on a sunny square to gather and sit, or wine and dine in one of the many inns or fine restaurants.

Littlecroft lies a short distance off the main village square, one of a group of terraced cottages, set on a narrow lane leading down to the Priory.

You enter from the front door into the cosiest of sitting rooms. A comfortable sofa and arm chair sit around a roaring log burning stove. Add a few candles, a little soft lighting, and you have the perfect place to relax.

From the sitting room you go through to the kitchen - dining-room. This is a really nice space, with the table to one end and a log burning stove to add a bit of atmosphere. The kitchen area is very well equipped, with light streaming through the large glazed end wall, a pleasure to work and prepare you favorite dish.

Up stairs lies the double bedroom, nicely furnished, with a short flight stairs leading up to an en-suite shower room. There is also a bathroom with basin a WC downstairs off the kitchen.

To the rear of the cottage is a small, walled patio garden. Private, with pleasing shrubs and overhanging trees, it will be perfect for a drink or barbecue on a warm summers evening.

This is a very well presented cottage, and for those who are looking for a romantic retreat, a comfortable and welcoming base for their holiday, yet be able to step out in the evening to wine and dine or simply for an easy stroll, then I am sure Littlecroft will meet all your expectations.
