My first impression of both Nanny Goat and adjoining Honey pot Cottage was....
Wow.....
I had just walked into two of the most fabulous holiday retreats in the lake district.
Set in the grounds of her own small country estate, renowned interior designer, Lynnette Tattersall and husband Jack, offer their guests the perfect holiday cottages. Created for comfort, relaxation and that large pinch of wow factor, you have truly a place to simply holiday at, use and enjoy.
The decor of both is rich and sumptuous. Lynnette has applied her aesthetic skills and considerable talents throughout, using heavy fabrics, beautiful paint finishes and an eclectic mix of furnishings that sit together happily, the whole seeming to wrap around you, offering that soothing, high level of comfort.
The estate lies on the eastern edge of the Lythe Valley, about five miles from Lake Windermere. A sun drenched plain, flanked with low rolling fell and woodland, it is a green and yellow ochre patchwork of meadows and orchards, where on a summers evening the air can be heavy with the scent of fruit and freshly mown hay.
The valley is criss crossed with narrow winding lanes that pass through farm land, by woodland and over rivers and becks, perfect for walks and cycling.
Nearby the cottages, about two miles, is the little village of Brigsteer, with an excellent pub serving local ales and good food. At Underbarrow, a gentle walk of about a mile, you have the Punch Bowl Inn and at Crosthwaite, yet another Punch Bowl, this one renowned for its cuisine - so plenty of choice for an evening drink and meal.
You approach down a sweeping drive, past a fish laden tarn, through immaculate grounds and into the private courtyard for the cottages.
From the front door you step into a small hall off which lie the two king size bedrooms, both with full en-suite. As with the rest of the house you can feel the Italian influence in the decor - indeed Lynnette learnt her painting skills studying and training in Florence, before spending time in LA.
A few short steps take you up to the dining room and kitchen area, perfectly equipped for using your time creating tasty dishes if you can take your eye off the rather nubile lady in the corner.
The kitchen spills out into the garden. Perfectly manicured, the sun filters through a huge oak tree onto the dining table, the ideal setting for barbecues and evening drinks.
Up stairs is my favourite bit - the large sitting room. Warm glazed walls, a roaring log fire, oak beams, lamps, chandeliers, candles and two massive sofas to dive into and slump with a good book after a days exploration.
More need not be said - let the pictures speak for themselves - except perhaps to say that the welcome is warm and the experience will be memorable.
